Disney Already Looking into Sequel for Live-Action Aladdin

In news that surprises absolutely no one, Disney loves money. And what made them over $1 billion dollars this year? Aladdin! Due to the films massive success in theaters they are already talking about a sequel to the film. Whether or not they go the route of the direct to video sequels of the original however is still up for discussion.

The new version of Aladdin left the story fairly open ended which would allow for more story to be told. Producer Dan Lin was asked if people over at Disney have talked about an Aladdin sequel and where the story could possibly go next.

“We have now. We certainly when we first made the movie wanted to just make the best movie we could and let audiences tell us if they wanted to see more. And I would say resoundingly audiences want to see more. They’ve watched this movie multiple times. We have lots of fan letters about people who really go back and they bring their friends and bring their family. And so we feel like there’s more story to tell. We are going to treat it the same way we treat the original Aladdin movie and not going to do a shot by shot remake of anything that’s been done before. We’re really looking at what’s been done before in the past and the home video, and there’s just more story to tell with the underlying materials. So without giving away too much, we are certainly exploring where we can go with this franchise.”

It should be noted that these are just conversations at this point. Disney still has a huge backlog of other films that they could possibly and quite successfully turn into live action if they wanted to. The Lion King did amazingly well in theaters despite peoples audible disdain for yet another live action film.

What do you think of this? Would you want to see a remake of the Return of Jafar or King of Thieves?
